Background

Fernando Powers, pro-life, single parent, war vet., was born in K. I. Sawyer Air Force Base, Michigan, on June 15, 1966. His father was from Texas, while in the Air Force met his mother in Spain and married there in the cathedral Virgin De Pilar in Zaragoza. Mr. Powers has three daughters, one granddaughter; Two brothers, one married; and one sister who is married; three nephews and and two nieces.

Mr. Powers was raised on a Military base until the age of 12.

After moving to Willingboro he won an award from Burlington County Times. Starting at a early age he began learning how to be a responsible leader.

He was very active growing up. He worked on several farms in South Jersey, mowed lawns, played sports year round and worked while going to school.

He also joined the Army National Guard in Bordentown while in his senior year in high school later, after graduation, he transferred into the United States Marine Corps and went to Paris Island for boot camp in October of 1985. He went to Aberdeen Proving Grounds to be educated in his field in 1986.

He has been a working man and has worked in many fields, from factories, to environmental companies, to driving over the road in the big trucks from Main to Florida to as far out west to Mississippi. He has been entrusted with many high clearance positions with the Military, Safety Kleen Corp., with Emery World Wide Airlines, with Post Office, and with U.S. Pipe. He is a recipient of many awards for outstanding performance. He is also a recipient of Military Campaign medals.

He is a life time member of VFW 1616 (Veterans of Foreign Wars), member of Good Sam (camping), and the NRA.

In 1991 he was activated under a presidential call-up and sent out to Saudi Arabia in Operation Desert Shield. Then, through the whole Operation Desert Storm where he volunteered to take other Marines runs when relief was needed for them, disregarding his own wellbeing.

He was injured in the front lines while jumping for cover 16 feet down. He insisted on remaining with his men rather then going on light duty.

He once was given bad coordinates which almost resulted in his capture by Iraqi troops. Another incident, due to his guide getting lost, he was left behind enemy lines. Lastly, while in Jabail port a scud blew up over him and he was unable to go for cover due to his injuries that he endured from the front the lines. There are to many events to write here on one page.

He was recognized for refusing to leave a fellow Marine that had gotten stuck in the sand out in the middle of the desert with explosives and soon there after was promoted to Corporal.

After his injuries that were sustained in the war, they were irritated and blood clots were formed, leaving him in the hospital twice. He was unable to drive again and decided to go to school.

He finished community college in Camden with two degrees.

He is in Rutgers University majoring in history at this time.

Mr. Powers believes that there are men and women placed in offices of trust or for profit and repeatedly abuse their power and in most cases it is because they do not follow the Law of the Land, both Federal and State Constitutions.

Now he feels compelled to step up to the plate to protect our country, liberty, and allow justice for all.

"If ever a time should come, when vain and aspiring men shall possess the highest seats in Government, our country will stand in need of its experienced patriots to prevent its ruin." - Samuel Adams
